the view (and snackage) from the road

09Jul09

The road trip was successful, and like most road trips I’ve found, much faster going than coming home. The road home is always longer than the road to adventure. First of all, we were very excited going to San Antonio. Second, we did the 13.5 hour trip to San Antonio in one day and split the trip back in two. That will slow any trip down. So will going to the bathroom every hour.

The trip was full of average road trip adventure. Fast food margaritas, eating outside on the curb to keep Roskoe company, the world’s largest McDonald’s, water parks, Dallas traffic and the world’s worst book on tape. Roskoe in a fit of boredom and rebellion chewed completely through his beautiful leather leash. Roskoe also slammed face first into the driver’s seat during a hard braking incident (this happened several times). And Roskoe’s adventures don’t end their. He felt that in these new environments (Grandpa and Grandma’s house and the hotel room) that he needed to alert us more loudly than usual when anyone knocked on the door or entered the house.

As I said before the snackage consisted of trail mix, Pringles, and chocolate chip cookies. My trail mix is simple. Buy the largest can of cocktail peanuts, bag of regular m&m’s and can of raisins and mix them together in a Ziploc bag or bowl. TaDa! Not the healthiest trail mix, but it is tasty and filling!

Being around family and spending so much time in the car with your significant other does help to put your life into perspective and remind you who you are and what’s important to you. I’ll be blogging more about that in the coming week, but until then, follow the link for more pictures from the road.
